A recent Yahoo study has discovered companies using the display ad method of online advertising can garner search engine presence improvements because of increased recognition caused by using these ads.
Display ads are, according to Google's definition, "Advertisements which appear in the main part of a publication, which feature graphics and text laid out according to the advertiser's own design." According to MarketingVOX, Yahoo conducted their study by analyzing the ad campaign of HarrisDirect, an online financial adviser. The results from the study revealed:
61% increase of relevant searches conducted using HarrisDirect
249% increase of clicks on sponsored links featuring HarrisDirect
139% of users exposed to HarrisDirect's display ad campaign clicked on links pointing to HarrisDirect's site
To conduct the study, Yahoo used both a control and a test group. The test group was exposed to HarrisDirect's advertisements, while the control group was not.
