Email Marketing
What is Spam?

What really is spam? Some are saying they only spam people who want to be spammed. Huh? I always thought that spam was a combination of: "email that is unsolicited AND unwanted."
What is Spam?
I run a community Web site, and I add many email addresses of people that have not asked for my emails. Does that make me a spammer?

The information I send is completely about the Web site and updates that have been posted. There is not one hint of selling anything, just information. Does that mean I am not a spammer?
Here's the kicker. I give my PHONE NUMBER in the emails so people can call me if they don't think the "reply" is safe enough.

Review www.webdesign-uk.com Overcoming the Fear to Ask

I know that I have been giving away advice on how to improve other websites, but it's always easier to be positively critical when it's not your site.

I thought I would ask you guys what you think of my own site just to see what you find. I must say that it's the third completely different design I did for this site in 8 months -- maybe your comments will save this one ;)

The site is at http://www.adposter.net

I sometimes wonder if this business is even viable nowadays, because I just took so much time and effort, and now it's slow.

Thank you for the suggestions... Read Replies

Affiliate Marketing
How Do YOU Pick the Best Affiliate Programs?

I decided to start a poll to find out what affiliates rate as the most important consideration when evulating a new program. Please feel free to add other important issues if I missed any. I'm sure many of these are important to you, so you may want to share what order is most important in your opinion.

Come on, don't be shy. Thanks in advance for sharing your feedback with others!

Email Marketing
Send Out 'Virus Found' Messages?!

When your email software finds a virus, should it,

1. Eat it alive and continue
2. Eat it and send an email to the sender about his/her email containing a virus
Virus

Number 1 is the fast and easy approach. But it will not be of help to anyone.

Number 2 is a good service, if and when there are a limited number of viruses and infected emails around.

Someone "sending" an email is not always actually sending the mail and they might not know their computer is infected. This is when a friendly note will come and handy to help them becoma aware of the problem and correct it.

Affiliate Marketing
Google AdSense and Affiliate Marketing

Can AdSense and affiliate marketing work together? Google AdSense and Affiliate Marketing

At first, I thought the answer was a resounding "NO!"

Google AdSense doesn't like to share pages with affiliate links. After a little thought, though, I came up with a work-around and I'm sure a lot of you have thought of the same opportunity... Read Replies

"We have a customer who sells gold jewelry online... Over the years, they've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't. For them, niche marketing has been very effective (ie. sticking with just gold jewelry).

The biggest problem has been with fraud - the merchant has no real recourse if the credit card companies approve the card purchases and then later reverse the charges because they were fraudulent. For that reason, the average price of products on the site has come down substantially since the site's begining, in order to reduce their potential losses. Just something to keep in mind when selecting your inventory."

Skinny Sites and Wide Sites

Post:

The reason we see the majority or sites with fixed width layouts is because it is the easiest and the simplest to design. You get predicable results regardless of resolution and screen size. The only thing left for the designer to manage is the negative space seen by viewers with higher resolutions. This is why we see so many centered fixed width websites. It is simply the easiest to design...
